Workplace Assessment & Vocational Rehabilitation

Establishing return to work readiness, facilitating employees back into their workplace, and supporting retention at work successfully.

What do we do?

Vocational rehabilitation is the process of specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention planning enabling successful retention in, or return to, existing employment with or after a health problem.

An employee's retention in, or absence from, work has clear implications for both employer and employee. When difficulties are due to a health-related issue, navigating a successful and economical return to work can be difficult without an appropriate vocational assessment and return-to-work plan, which is where we can be vital.

How do we do it?

In line with NHS Englands Vocational Rehabilitation Guidance, we:

  • assess the impact of an employee's condition.
  • identify barriers to returning to work.
  • identify possible solutions such as reasonable adjustments, equipment needs or therapy.
  • make recommendations towards a return-to-work plan.
  • support employees and employers to understand potential issues & solutions.

Our occupational therapist completes a workplace assessment to identify barriers and solutions in the context of the employee's place of work. A personalised vocational rehabilitation programme can be completed to improve changeable health barriers or train in the use of compensations, strategies and equipment.

We also work closely with companies' occupational health and human resource departments as required.

Functional Assessments & Reports

What do we do?

Stay Independent works at the request of our business & company clients, such as insurance companies, charities and other benevolent organisations to provide functional occupational therapy assessments, rehabilitation, solution recommendations & reports of their clients independence in activities of daily living. This can include issues with indoor/outdoor mobility, bed, chair, bath, shower, toilet or car transfers, personal care, domestic activites of daily living, such as cooking or shopping and community access.

How do we do it?

Assessments are tailored to the request of the referring company or business partner and be specific to the areas of concern. Assessments are undertaken in the comfort of the clients own home, or online depending on the nature of assessment required. The client is assessed to identify functional issues and the underpinning reasons for them. A home based assessment can include an comprehensive environmental assessment. Personalised solution recommendations are established and we provide written reports detailing the assessment findings and recommendations as required. We are happy to use your documentation template if that is preferred.
